Kasabian is a UK based band that could arguably categorized as a electro-indie rock band. Their lyrics feature political and social themes giving weight to all of their work. The music itself can be described as nothing else but amazing. Its rich, fluid keyboards mixed with the hard riffs of a screeching guitar makes their rhythms equal to none. Adaptable but consistent, their music can range from softer rock to an all out call to arms “power ballad”. Such ability in an artist is truly admirable.

The bands beginings start in Leicester where they were founded by members Tom, Sergio, Chris E., and Chris K. This indie group was at first called Saracuse but then changed their name to Kasabian at the suggestion of Chris K. Their debute album ‘Kasabian’ released in 2004 and included songs like the famous Club Foot and Reason for Treason. This sucessful album soon lead the group to record their next album Empire (2006). Its safe to say that between the two albums there is not one song that you will get tried of listening to. Kasabians success in the indie rock scene promises that this band has staying power.

Once agian indie bands prove their worth. The Raveonettes a band based in the 60s and 70s style symplicity, this Danish Duo truly packs a power punch of cool but lyrical moods and soft rythmes contrasting heavy lyrics. Overall they stay consistent in delievering a smooth beat.

Their name the Raveonettes is a direct reference to the Ronettes and Buddy Holly’s Rave On. Their music can be sumed up as simplicity but not minimalistic, with electric beats and intensly electric instruments giving a calm mood then contrasted with a darker lyrical flavor. This dark and light mixture can be contributed to bands like the Velvet Underground that provide a great deal of influence on the artists, as said by them.

Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner met in Cogenhagen Denmark and are the founding members of the Raveonettes. They started recording in Once Was & Sauna Records a former Sony BMG recording studio. Their first album Whip it On became the best album of the year in Denmark’s music awards in 2002. The entire album was recorded with every song under 3 min. and in B-flat, it was a truly remarkable first album. After the success of their first album, they released Chain Gang of Love (2003), Pretty in Black (2005), and their new album, Lust Lust Lust (2007).

Out of most of their songs, I’d have to say, the best one in my opinion is Black/White a song that Gap commissioned them to do in their Sound of Colors campaign in which a few select bands were commissioned to write songs with a theme about a color, or in this case a group of colors. The songs stripped down beats and “hollow” constructed sounds go alone beautifully with its dark lyrical quality.

Watch Black/White by the Raveonettes

The Arcade Fire has been a successful band since their first album Funeral which released in 2004. The band centers around husband and wife Win Butler and Regine Chassagne who started up in Montreal, quebec, Canada. Their use of a wide range of musical instruments including harps, guitars, brass instruments, accordion, and other stringed instruments. Various other members in their group make them a vary large band as there are currently seven members and six touring members that accompany them.

Their origins are truly of the indie kind as they started as a small unknown band giving a few concerts and passing out their famous Us Kids Know EP. With the release of Funeral, the band started to gain more momentum as they became named as the album of the year in 2005, going gold in Canada and in the United Kingdom. Famous tracks like Rebellion (lies) and Haiti plus the famous Neighboorhoods number one through four (Neighboorhood #1 (Tunnels), Neighboorhood #2 (Laika) a personal favorite, Neighboorhood #3 (Power out), and Neighboorhood #4 (7 kettles)) make the album a very unique experience.
The bands new adventure, Neon Bible has a different take on the Arcade Fire’s music as the tracks are self created without any producers. The Arcade Fire, independant and a fresh take on music, continues their success with their new album Neon Bible and other albums to come.
